It is with great sadness that the staff at Windward acknowledge the passing of one of Conservation Canine’s CK9 detection dogs, Sampson. We were lucky enough to work with him several years ago on a project for Seattle Public Utilities, during which he proved that dogs can be trained to alert to the presence of PCBs. Sampson and his handler, Julianne, were integral to the success of this pilot study, which looked at the utility of using detection dogs for source control work. Sampson was enthusiastic, hard working, loving, dedicated, and loyal—he embodied everything that humans love about dogs. We offer our heartfelt condolences to Julianne and the rest of his family at Conservation Canines.
